No footnote?

Post by Maria »

I have recently downloaded the swedish version of Textmaker Free for Mac. It seems to work fine however I can't insert a footnote. There are no options for footnotes available under "insert" ("infoga") or in "references" ("referenser"). Can I find it somewhere else?

It appears (in the Windows version) that footnotes is one of the features not supported in the FreeOffice version.

Thanks for quick answer! Disappointed though that this crucial feature is missing!

I understand your disappointment, but I also recognize that FreeOffice offers a tremendous amount of functionality (as well as excellent file compatibility with Microsoft Office) ... for free. It's just not reasonable to expect SoftMaker to give us everything for free, or there would be no reason to buy their paid products.

If I sound like a fan of SoftMaker -- I am. I have no affiliation with SoftMaker. I'm a software junkie. I discovered FreeOffice around the time FreeOffice 2018 was introduced. I tried it, and I liked it enough that I decided to support the company by purchasing SoftMaker Office Professional. I continue to recommend FreeOffice to people with limited incomes who wish to free themselves from Microsoft Office. I have friends who have been using FreeOffice for years and who find that it does everything they need.

Yes i do agree – you can´t expect a free version to offer all options that you otherwise would had to pay for. As retired my economy is limited so I got rid of my Office-subscription. The kind of writing I do is "academic" and therefore I need footnotes but that is pretty much it. I use Macs own Pages and that works splendid but it is hard to cooperate with others if I don´t have Word. Since a subscription of Textmaker is not expensive I will get that!

Apple Pages allows you to download and open files in the .docx file format, and it also opens files in that format.

After reading your question, I opened one of my book manuscripts (with footnotes) in FreeOffice TextMaker. I can't create new footnotes, but the footnotes already in the manuscript displayed without error, and I was able to edit them using the FreeOffice version.
