Sorry, but I'm back. I have "upgraded" my Linux experimental computer to an older but still functional Toshiba laptop. This one supports 64-bit. I have installed LMDE6 as the distro. It includes LibreOffice, but I really REALLY don't like LibreOffice so I want to install FreeOffice (for now). If I change to Linux when support for Windows 10 ends next October, I'll move up to the commercial version of SoftMaker Office.
For now, I need to figure out how to install FreeOffice to LMDE6 -- preferably in the configuration that allows it to up date automatically. As a complete rookie with Linux, I read the installation instructions and they make no sense to me. Can someone please explain the procedure to me in small words and short sentences that my little brain can comprehend?
Please remember -- I know NOTHING about Linux.
Thanks.

Re: Linux Installation (again)
My account looks fresh, but I am not. Sorry, but the password recovery procedure has not succeeded in providing access to my existing account, which was „Michael Uplawski” (mind the quote marks).
I try to make you advance, anyway. Your question is (unrelated to SoftMaker Office): How do you install just anything on Linux?
There is software installed on your system, which serves exactly that purpose. Chances are, as you use some Debian-derived distribution, that one of these programs is synaptic or aptitude. *BOTH* will connect to the software resources for your distribution and allow you to download & install “software”. Notably SoftMaker FreeOffice 2024 *may* be included in the programs, proposed for you.
If not and if you found out by looking at those packages yourself, come back here.
If you want to stick with Linux, you need knowledge about managing your system. SoftMaker Office has no priority, right now.
This is however the SoftMaker Office forum.

OFF-TOPIC - Account trouble (Was: Linux Installation (again))
Thanks SuperTech. Especially for the time you invested. Somehow I had thought that my above introductory line would do it all; explain, why I write as I do, and close the “lost password issue”. Now it looks like I failed again. PSE let the account-problem rest, I do not really care to revive the old account.
Thank you, also for the reminder on the modified mail-address, I had forgotten about that and – anyway – do not use the address anymore.
As usual.
Cheerio.
[Edit for 7h20 and lack of coffee]

OFF TOPIC – account-trouble (Was: Linux Installation (again) )
... okay, I understand that this is a responsibility I have to claim. Do as you please, but if it helps, just tell me what I can do now, as the mail-address that you found is none that I have access too, today. For PM, use either the address associated with “El Supremo” or the the other one that you know anyway.
„Fett Sorry” for the trouble.

We can't use this one, as this one you have already used to create this forum account.
