I found yesterday when trying to enter characters with accents that I couldn't do it.
Normally, to enter for example an acute accent over an e one types option-e followed by e and é appears (I have just done it here!).
I was able to do it in Office 2021 and can still do it in all other programs, eg Pages, TextEdit, Mail. But not in Office 2024. What happens is that an e without an accent appears, and then when I press the space bar or the next key the accent appears AFTER the e (not over it).
What is the problem here?

Re: Can't do accents
OK replying to myself!
While speaking to SoftMaker support (who couldn't officially support me because I'm on the FreeOffice option) they asked me whether the MacOS accent menu appears. I didn't know what that meant so had to google it. I found out that if you hold down the "e" key (or any other letter key that supports accents) a menu appears of the possible accents for that letter and you can select the one you want.
Previously I'd always used the method for generating accents that I described in my original post - which works on all MacOS programs that I use except for SoftMaker!
I'm probably the last person in the world to find that out, but just in case there are other puzzled people here is the answer.
