pencil tool

I often need to handwrite signatures and the like in PDFs.

The pencil tool is a bit difficult to use for this sort of thing. It seems to default to a black fill, which has unexpected results, and the pencil tool goes back to the selection arrow once the mouse button is released, which means any signature that contains multiple strokes of the pencil can't be produced in a single operation.

I can't find any configuration options for the pencil tool at all -- am I missing something?
