New Instance For Each Opened PDF File

Post by itelect01 »

When my application runs it creates multiple PDF files. FlexiPDF 2022 opens each PDF file in it's own instance. None of these instances know about the others, so I cannot combine them into one file. The only option seems to be saving a single file from each instance and combining them manually which is very time consuming. How do I stop FlexiPDF from starting a new instance for each file, and open them in the same session to work with them?

Thank you for your post, but currently this feature is not available. I have forwarded this improvement suggestion...

I must admit I was very surprised that multiple pdfs didn't open in tabs in the same instance. That almost seems like a standard feature in all the other readers/editors that I've tried.

The versions of Acrobat and Adobe Reader that I'm using don't open new documents in tabs. Each opens in a separate window -- and I would not want it to be any other way. I'm old-fashioned. I have never understood the current obsession with tabbed applications.

Note to SoftMaker: If you intend to add this "feature," please be certain to make it an option that users can choose or opt out of, because to some of us it is NOT a feature, it's an annoyance.

+1 for ability to default to opening pdfs in one window. Make that +10 at least. I'm starting to curse the app every time I have to go through the multiple windows business. I open files by doubleclicking in my file manager, or having them open automatically when a pdf is created.

Please, please, please give us the option. If I wanted to use Acrobat, I'd be using Acrobat.

This feature is already implemented in FlexiPDF 2025.

“The new version of FlexiPDF opens several documents at the same time and displays them in tabs – just like you know it from SoftMaker Office or your web browser.

This keeps you on top of your documents.”

If I am not mistaken the 'open documents in tabs' option is incomplete.

I think if one uses the "file -> open" route then they open in tabs. But insofar as I can see otherwise document open in separate instances of the program - which on a slower computer (eg my laptop) can be quite inconvenient.

Two examples of this are (one) dragging/dropping several PDF's at a time: they open in separate instances. (two) extracting bits of a file and saving as a pdf causes the saved pdf to open in a separate instance. In both of these cases for me tabbed documents would be much more useful.

I'd like to send this back to the development team for further development.

Thanks.

Have you tried that in FlexiPDF 2025?
