I'm creating a document and want to include the description of an apartment that has two bedrooms. I type "2 BR" and TextMaker immediately changes it to "2 Best regards"
How do I shut that off?
Are there any other shortcuts lingering in the shadows ready to "help" me?

You are being "helped" by a feature called Smart Text. In the classic menu this is accessed from Insert > Smart Text. I'm not sure how to find it in the ribbon menu, but the user manual or built-in help feature can guide you.
One of the two pre-set shortcuts, unfortunately for you, happens to be "BR." You can edit that from the Smart Text dialogue box.
