odd...the whole reason I am here looking for a reasonable free alt for office is licensing issues.
so this is free but licensing is added to make it more closely resemble m$??

Yes, and no.
SoftMaker offers SoftMaker Office, which is commercial software that is either sold under a perpetual license, or rented on a subscription basis (the NX Universl version). You posted in the support area for the paid versions.
SoftMaker also offers FreeOffice, which is a completely free office suite that includes the same three apps as the commercial version, but with some features disabled. There is a separate area of this support forum for asking questions about FreeOffice.
What do you have? SoftMaker Office, SoftMaker Office NX, or FreeOffice?
