Footnotes disappearing from RTF

I am exporting some .rtf files from Scrivener and when I open them in TextMaker, all footnotes are missing. This is unique to TextMaker--I have confirmed that the footnotes still appear in Word, etc. If I then open the file in TextMaker and make any edits, the footnotes are then permanently lost. Please help. Thank you!
