Word counter?

I’m trying out FreeOffice as an alternative to MS office, and I cannot for the lift of me get the word counter working. I found n old post here on the forums, but the directions are not working for me. I’ve spent so much time on this, I’m ready to just get MS office and be done with it.

I have the latest version of free office, can someone please guide me through it?

Hi, you can find the word count in File | Properties | Statistics

I take it from the answer that it is not possible to display the current word count in the bar at the bottom of the window? This seems so obvious that I am surprised it is not done.

You can add a real-time word counter to the status bar by clicking on the >> triangles on the right and choosing it from Add/remove buttons.
