Mail merge not retaining fields

In TM 18 : When I insert the DB fields on an envelope form then later save the file the DB fields disappear.
This worked fine in TM 16 and never lost the fields on saving.
Now each time I try to use the mail merge I have to reset the fields, any reason for this?
This the same DB that I use each year for Christmas card envelopes and also the same envelope form.

In which file format (tmd, tmdx, doc or docx) did you save the file? Could you please attach a sample file?
