double strike through in Drop Cap font single letter

I have a document 86 pages long with at least one drop cap font single letter on each page. The document was imported from Word 2007, went in seamlessly until I opened it the next day with at least one drop cap letter containing the double strike through. Anyone else had this problem? I have changed to a different font. It corrects it OK, but when I save it and return to it the double strike through is there again. I go to drop cap>character>uncheck double strike through> select protect button, but that doesn't solve the problem.
