Reset character formatting button on the Home tab

Post by hla »

Hi, a suggestion regarding the button that is in the subject:

Reproduction steps:
Template Normal A4 chosen from the File menu.
"Heading 1" typed in the document.
Selected the above line and "Heading 1"applied from the ribbon Styles selection.
Selected everything via Ctrl + A.
Clicked "Reset character formatting" button on the ribbon's Home tab.
Nothing happens to the "Heading 1 typed." line that has Heading 1 applied.

Question:
It should clear everything selected to "Normal" style, shouldn't it? I've checked both Word (the similar icon with a letter A and an eraser on it) and LibreOffice's option "Clear formatting". Both of these 2 other apps clear everything from the selected text. They don't only remove "customizations" above the applied style, as TM appears to be doing (I add red color to heading for instance and this button clears it). I believe, as a user, it is my expectation to clear everything from the text - make it "plain text", not "reset styles".

That's not what the Reset button in the character formatting dialogue does, but I don't know how to properly explain its function.

If you want to return the formatting to the Normal style, you need to change the style to "Normal," not reset.
