Inserting emoji into a document/presentation

Post by Piscador »

I'm in the process of writing a brief history of emoji for a class, and I've spent hours trying to insert emoji characters with no luck. I've installed Google's 'Noto emoji' TTF font but haven't been able to get the characters to display in any of the Sorftmaker Office apps. Neither cutting-and-pasting nor 'insert symbol' seem to work. Any suggestions?
TIA :)

Thanks for your post. Currently, some of the emojis are not supported, but I have forwarded this improvement suggestion to our product management.

It's me again. Two years later on, I approached the issue again. I tried everything I tried before as well as some new ideas. Nada. Nyet. Nothing. :(
Finally I checked out Libre Office Impress out of desperation. And it worked. So, I will complete the lesson with Impress, although it's a struggle. I've always found Libre Office slow and clunky compared to Softmaker's office apps. It's going to take me twice as long to prepare the lesson, moaning and complaining every inch of the way. And I will gratefully return to Presentations when this task is finished.
This is not a complaint aimed at Softmaker, by the way. It seems there is little interest in adding this feature, and to be honest I don't expect to ever use it again. I wrote this post just in case somebody else has a similar problem.

One can never predict when one may want or need to enter an emoji. The key point is that Piscador installed a TruetYpe font that works in other applications but doesn't work in SoftMaker Office. TrueType is supposed to be a universal font format. For an application to not recognize a TrueType font is inexplicable and unacceptable.
