Paste as text does not include all decimals

Post by robert006 »

Hi,
In the attached file, I copied the cells, then opened another instance of Planmaker and pasted the clipboard data as Unformatted text with no formatting.
In the pasted sheet, cells which had only one digit after the decimal place pasted as a number without the decimal place. This does not happen if pasting as Planmaker data, however I often want to paste unformatted text, and will probably forget about this issue, with undesired consequences.
Could the program be changed so that all decimals are pasted, as they should be, when pasting as unformatted text?
Thanks

Pasting into other spreadsheets has mixed results - some include all decimals and others don't.
When looking at the clipboard data, all decimals are shown.

Thank you for sharing your problem along with the example file. I can confirm this occurs because new worksheets default to the 'General' number format, which automatically removes trailing zeros after decimals (e.g., displaying 11.30 as 11.3).

To maintain consistent decimal places:

1. Select the affected column/range.
2. Right-click and choose 'Cell'.
3. Select 'Number' category.
4. Set decimal places to 2.
5. Click OK.

This will preserve your desired formatting (11.30) throughout the worksheet.

Hi,
Please try these steps:
1 select all of the data
2 Edit>Copy
3 open a new sheet
4 Edit>Paste Special>Paste as: Unformatted text, uncheck All under Paste formatting
5 review numbers in column F, and note that cell F7 pasted as 32970 and not 329.70, cell F11 pasted as 17220 and not 172.20 etc.

In this situation, the numbers are pasted without their decimals, resulting in incorrect results.
Thanks

Why did you uncheck all the options?I just tried this, but when pasting as unformatted text I didn't change any of the default options that were checked. The decimal places came into the new sheet intact.

Hi,
Thank you for this - I will make a note of it.
Perhaps greying out the paste formatting check boxes, when paste as unformatted text is selected, would be less confusing for users like me. If the selection is not done correctly, the pasted results will be incorrect, and not necessarily noticed, with undesired consequences.
Thanks
