Question on breaks

Can someone explain the difference between a section break and a chapter break?

Having moved from Microsoft Word to SoftMaker Office, I haven't fully adapted to differences in terminology and differences in the way things work. In Word, I can enter a column break, a page break, or any of four types of section break:

• Next Page

• Continuous

• Even Page

• Odd Page

In formatting books, however, I often want the headers in each chapter to change, to indicate the chapter title. In Word, since I always want a new chapter to begin on a right-hand (odd numbered) page, I would insert a section break for "Odd Page." Easy. Even I could figure that out.

In Textmaker, when I open the Insert > Break menu, I have the following choices:

• Line

• Column

• Page

• Section

• Chapter

The Line Break, Column Break work the same as in Word. Page Break also works the same in TextMaker; it jumps to a new page, but it's within the same section, so headers and footers remain the same.

But what's the difference between a Section Break and a Chapter Break? Aren't section breaks the same as chapter breaks?

The main function of section breaks is the option to change the number of columns without starting a new chapter. So you can format part of the text with a different number of columns while all chapter options stay the same. A section break can be combined with a page break but this is not necessary; a new section may as well begin or end somewhere on a page.
