copy and paste track changes

Hello. I have a document with track changes in. I want to move the entire document to a new template, preserving the changes. I have tried copy pasting from the original with TC enabled and having TC enabled in the new one before pasting, also enabled after pasting, however neither option is preserving my original changes, just showing the whole document as having been added in.
Basically I want my track changes preserved but the document in a new template. I need a fix. Anyone any clues?

Track Changes is a feature designed to record changes within a single document, not across multiple documents. Therefore, I don’t think the copy and paste function should work in this case.
