What's the difference?

Post by Woody44 »

SoftMaker sells the Megafont NOW collection of 7,500 fonts for $34.95 (U.S.) It is licensed for three computers for family, non-commercial use and for one computer for commercial use, and includes web fonts.

The infiniType collection is 7,444 fonts and includes web fonts. It is licensed for one computer. The current price is $299.

What's the difference? Why is one collection priced at a fraction of the price of the other, when the number of fonts is nearly the same and it appears that the two collections include pretty much the same fonts?

Thank you for posting your query.

The infiniType 4 are first-class selected fonts for professional font users (designers, ad agencies etc.) and contains not only TrueType fonts but also OpenType PS fonts.

About 10 to 15 years ago, using OpenType instead TrueType was a big deal for one simple reason: TrueType didn't supported ligatures. Since a few years back this is no longer the case since both formats support ligatures plus some extra features rendering the whole TrueType vs OpenType meaningless.

I guess the real difference, and SuperTech can correct me if I am wrong, is that infiniType 4 includes gryphs that are not present in the regular Megafont NOW.
