Missing tabs

I've just updated Office and the tabbed interface has disappeared in TextMaker, though PlanMaker is unaffected. I use the tabs frequently and I would very much like these to be returned ASAP.

After fiddling with the settings, I've managed to get the tabs back, but I don't know why they went missing to begin with. Is there an option that governs these tabs?

No, there is no option or setting.

It's just the way you open files from Open dialog box, with or without “New program window”.
