Can't install on Mint 22

Post by gratoy »

I just upgraded from Mint 21 and can't reinstall Free Office.

Dependency is not satisfiable: libglib2.0-0 (>=2.12.0)

What can I do?

There are several options:
1. Ask upstream (Meaning Linux Mint).
2. Force the installation by spiking the dependency (FreeOffice may not run, keep that in mind)

Please notice you posted in the wrong place. This is not the FreeOffice section of the forum.

Oh? I 'm confused now. What do you mean? The forum breadcrumbs are:

SoftMaker -Board index -FreeOffice 2024- FreeOffice 2024 for Linux -FreeOffice 2024 for Linux (General)

I'll look at what spiking is. Thank you.

That is because one of the moderators moved it to the right place.
Unsure how I could force the install.
Use: sudo dpkg -i --force-depends full-path-to-where-the-freeoffice-deb-file-is. (for example: sudo dpkg -i --force-depends Downloads/freeoffice2024.deb)

Keep in mind that forcing a package manager to skip dependencies is the last thing one should do. First contact Mint support, and tell them about the missing dependency: libglib2.0-0 (>=2.12.0).

Thanks again. And thanks to the Mod. Yes I'll wait.

I already had to rebuild the PC after Python messed up, I'm in no hurry to start over.

No reply yet from tech support, I asked on Aug 2nd. Fingers crossed to can come up with something so I can use the software I purchased. :)

Thank you for reporting this problem, but we are unable to reproduce this problem for the latest Mint 22.

Please execute the following commands to make it work for you:

Code: Select all

apt update
apt upgrade

Same error here. Same dependency.

I've just upgraded from 21.3 to 22 Wilma using mintupgrade and FreeOffice 2021 offered me to upgrade to 2024. Maybe it's affecting only upgrades from previous versions of Mint?

Maybe, we are not sure as unable to reproduce this problem.

If it's partially installed, you can try to reinstall again or there can be some corruption during operating system upgrade.
