Rotating text boxes?

I was trying to do a book cover using TextMaker. Not just an e-book cover -- I needed to make a complete cover for a printed book, with a back cover, a spine, and a front cover. Doing the spine, of course, required turning the text at 90 degrees to the orientation of everything else.

I'm certain I have done this before, but I couldn't make it work. I created a text box and typed the text into it, but I can't figure out how to make the text box rotate. It works with image boxes, but it wouldn't work for text boxes.

What am I doing wrong?

In text box properties, tab “Inner text", there is the option "Rotate by". 90° or 270° will do the trick.
