If the check box above for Load only fonts relevant… is on, the apps will not show your activated third party fonts. It doesn't matter what method you use, they won't appear.
If you turn the check box off, your third party fonts will then show, but you then get these repeatable actions.
1. If the activated fonts are directly in the /Library/Fonts folder, the user account Fonts folder, or activated in place, the fonts will appear in the suite. But, they will not release from the font list when deactivated. They continue to show as available and behave as if they are.
2. The only way to get your deactivated third party fonts removed from the list, without quitting and relaunching the app(s), is to physically remove the fonts from the /Library/Fonts folder, or the user account Fonts folder.
3. It does the same if the fonts have been activated in place. Deactivating them does not cause them to disappear from the list. They remain "active".
