Unlinking OneDrive seems to have done the job. I'm going to try link it back to my PC and see what happens.

Definitely being caused by OneDrive When it is unlinked my files open just fine.

Hello, Unlinking one drive worked for me too BUT I use one drive all the time so this problem is not really solved for me!

I have the same problem using OneDrive and it is also not an option to stop using it. Please fix.

Same for me ... OneDrive is central to my workflow. There's also been a long standing problem with OneDrive and SMO - I work regularly across two machines and the sync is not reliable (basically you have to remember to wait a good few minutes before shutting down whatever machine you've been working on). I accept that this is at heart a OneDrive problem, but it doesn't afflict LibreOffice let alone MS 365. Until it gets resolved I've very reluctantly stopped using SMO, even though in most respects it remains my preferred word processor.

On further checking the problem for me is not only with onedrive. I copied onedrive to hard drive and opening a file started the appropriate app but didn't load the file. Also if a file is downloaded by Edge the effect is the same. So not only a problem using File Explorer and onedrive.

What do you mean you copies OneDrive ot the a hard drive? Did that include disconnecting OneDrive from your computer?

*Later Edit: Unlinking OneDrive solved the problem! I am so happy I am not alone in this, and that others also have this problem!

*Later Edit 2: I am using FreeOffice, not the paid version. So I guess I am in the wrong forum section. Strangely, I don't find topics with this problem in FreeOffice's forum sections.

First of all, thank you for this amazing software.

My problem is the same, whenever I try to open a file directly from File Explorer, be it .docx, .odt with TextMaker, or .xlsx with PlanMaker, the window of which I took a screenshot appears, the mouse shows a rotating circle (as if something is loading) but nothing happens. I have waited for more than 30 seconds, and nothing happens. I am attaching the screenshot I took after opening one of these files with TextMaker; the same happens with PlanMaker. I haven't tried Presentations yet.

If I open TextMaker or PlanMaker directly, and then use the File -> Open menu and I open the same files, they are opened successfully.

My Windows 11 has all the latest updates, even today's Patch Tuesday cumulative updates. Also, my laptop is new and all the drivers are up to date.

There is a service pack planned to be released next week that works around this bug in Windows. Stay tuned, we are working on this with high priority.

If you cannot wait for the service pack, you can edit the registry files.
Here is what I changed, if you cut and paste the text into notepad and save as a .reg file, it can be loaded into the registry.
Each line corrects a the open command which is missing an %1 argument. Again, I would really suggest waiting for the official fix.
But here is what I did (note you must have installed office in the default directory otherwise you must edit these entries. (Note your new .reg file needs the "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" heading to work (This is all Windows 11).
