[Resolved] Can TextMaker automatically convert two hypehns to an em dash?

Post by Eumaios »

Hello,

I've really come to like how Microsoft Word automatically converts two hyphens into an em dash; it's a great convenience. Can TextMaker do that?

Thank you,
Eric

Hello Eric,

Do you mean getting the en-dash by writing two dashes and then hitting space? It can be configured as a Smart Text entry. You can find it under the “Insert” tab.

There is also a shortcut for entering en-dashes visible under the “Character” option.

The way I insert it is by using the compose key. Depending on your distro, you’ll have to configure it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compose_key).

Hope this helps,

Hello Goghard,

Is this available on the FreeOffice TextMaker version or only on the Office 2021 version?

I ask because I cannot find any Smart Text option under the Insert tab on FreeOffice.

Thank you,
Eric

SmartText is actually a premium feature which is available in commercial versions only.

You can find a complete list of feature comparison here.
