Changing defaults in template

I want to change the default settings for font size, line spacing, and hyphenation in the templates A4 and Normal. I have followed the instructions for making the changes in the Windows version, but the changes do not stick. How is this done for Mac 2021?
The unsuccessful method was: open template, make changes through Format Paragraph Style and save.

I have tried two:
1) Ribbon at top of screen (File,Edit, View)
File/Open
Softmaker/Textmaker 2021 templates/English US/Normal A4

2) Home
New/Default (Normal A4)

In each tried edit the blank document via Edit/Paragraph and Edit/Paragraph Style
