TAB Character Issue
The tab character (→) is not visible if it is selected in Options (Show Unprintable Characters).

It is visible. I think you have a different problem: when you press Tab at the beginning of the line, it increases the paragraph indent instead of inserting a tab character. You can control this behavior in File | Options.

Thank you for the prompt response. I did check the indent issue before the initial post was sent. The documents I used were created in SO 2018 with the TAB character clearly identified. However, if I added a TAB in any of those documents, the TAB would take effect without the TAB character visible. All other unprintable characters were visible. - Pete

TAB Character Issue Solved
Martin,
The TAB character will be visible if the “Show Unprintable Characters” box for Tabs is selected under Options View and the “Set left and first-line indent with Tab and Backspace keys” is not selected under Options Edit.
