Why is this slower than Freeoffice?

Hi. I am a long time FreeOffice user. I finally bought the paid version in the recent sale. And the very first thing I noticed is that selecting/deleting text is very slow on certain documents. I uninstalled Softmaker Office 2018 and went back to FreeOffice 2018 (cuz it is not possible to keep both) and the lag disappeared. I tested with the same documents.

I am pretty sure certain formatting is causing this but figuring this out has been problematic.

I installed the demo on a fresh Win 10 VM to ensure that it is not my OS, and sure enough, it is slow on the VM as well.

Does anyone have any idea what to look for?

I stripped the document of everything until only the problem element remained: Autoshapes. For some reason this document uses autoshapes instead of text boxes. But I can not recreate this issue on a blank. And it is still blazing fast on FreeOffice.

Actions that are slow: Deleting, Selecting text using shift+arrow, Typing.

I attached the sample file. I converted it into a lorem ipsum document so it can be publicly shared.

I tried that given file with both FreeOffice and SoftMaker Professional 2018, I didn't find any difference in performance while working on them. Please share your sminfo file so that we can investigate this issue further. You can create it by clicking on '?' > About > 'Write system information...'

Ok I though it would be a spec sheet of my hardware and OS details. This spec sheet I shared is created by FreeOffice cause I have the full version installed on VM right now. But I assumed VM specs will do you no good so I shared this instead. I will have to reinstall the full version on this machine to give you a proper spec sheet.

Thanks for sharing this sminfo. Please also send us your Settings folder for Softmaker for both the versions. You can find it in My Documents\SoftMaker folder. Please zip this settings folder and send it to us so that we can analyze your SoftMaker Office Settings.

Doing that is proving hard. For some reason WinRar can not read the files even in admin mode (I also tried taking an ISO. Same access Denied Error). Yet administrators have read access to that folder and all of it is inherited.

There is nothing special in that folder though. To make sure, I uninstalled Softmaker Office, deleted that entire folder, reinstalled Softmaker office again. Then I did the same with FreeOffice. Still, if you want it, I will need to prepare a Linux boot drive.. or I will guidance on how to backup that folder from within Windows.

I have been very busy during the quarantine. I could not get the time to reinstall everything. But now I have better. I am facing the same issue in 2021 beta. Here is the folder. But I could not read tmpstart.dad even with system account.

We have analyzed the settings and found that you are using SoftMaker Office 2021 and not SoftMaker Office 2018. TextMaker 2021(64bit) is a little slower than TextMaker Free 2018 (32bit) because of additional advanced features and difference in architecture (64/32 bit). And in your settings by default, the thumbnail view and the paragraph styles are enabled which consume additional resources and take some time in refreshing.

1. Thumbnail view update itself when you add/delete text so it consumes additional resources and takes some additional time, but in rev.1020 it is improved than previous revision, so please update your SoftMaker Office 2021.
2. 64-bit version can be slower than 32 bit.
3. TextMaker 2021 has a lot of additional features that might slow down TextMaker 2021 compared to TextMaker Free 2018.

Performance should already be better in rev.1020, but the thumbnail view may still make TextMaker 2021 slower than TextMaker 2018, since thumbnails did not exist there.
