I tried to open several spreadsheets and some wouldn't show properly others were giving me a "not enough memory" error message.

FreeOffice 2018 is a 32bit application and, as a consequence, com only use 2GB of RAM. That means that if you open a file that is really big, you'll get such a warning. Try to reduce the size of the file or install the trial version of SoftMaker Office 2018 (64bits), the commercial version of FreeOffice.
