Service Pack Install

Post by Bob D »

Windows 7 Pro 64 Softmaker 2018 933.0620 64bit
Often get message: New Service Pack available.

When in the program "Check for Updates" yields:
There is a new service pack.
Do you want to download the update now?

(I hit OK and see the connection opening to Softmake Updater)
Then always presented with:
All files are up to date.
Any suggestions?

Regards

Thanks, Martin

Have tried install of the latest ofw2018_64.msi.
The install begins, but soon am presented with:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK, ...or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package 'ofw2018_64.msi'...

This refers to the "old / original" install .msi file? (That no longer exists)?

Advice appreciated.

Never mind.
Required a registry edit.
All is well now.

Thanks for your help.

Disclaimer: The normal caveats apply when attempting any edit of the registry.

Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products
Search 'Products' directory for ofw2018_64.msi
On this box, it was found here:
\C90F0B20408446F4BBA82F62609E3E02\SourceList\ofw2018_64.msi
Delete 'Source List' & 'C90F0....' parent directory.
(It contained the original local directory in which once resided the .msi installer)

So the old MSI file was missing from the place where it was stored by the system. Do you know how that happened? Did you run some "Windows optimizer" or cleanup tool?

I often delete original install .exe, .msi files (for programs that can be readily DL'd), rather than have them take up GBs of space.

That's not a good idea because Windows needs the original MSI to uninstall it, and not the latest version that you can download.

Hi Martin

Greetings from Malaysia!

I've just joined the forum as I'm experiencing this problem of uninstalling/installing SoftMaker Office and am looking for someone to help me solve the problem. Here's the message that came thru' :

"the feature you are using is on a network resource which is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path ..."

It happened when I tried to uninstall the app. from my Win 7 OS. I lost the exe/installer when my PC crashed and I lost practically most of my files, two Decembers ago. So I downloaded the full version to see if I could reinstall and then do the uninstall. I get the same message again. What's going on?

Is there a way to get round the problem without tinkering with the registry?

Thanks, Cjuan

If you don't want to edit the registry, you could try the following procedures:

Hi Miguel-C

Thanks for sending/posting the link detailing the possible solutions to Service Pack Install failure.

Two days ago, I accidentally stumbled on the original executive setup file for Softmaker Office and decided to move it to where it was originally. From there, I decided to reinstall using the executive file and everything went smoothly and I managed to removed the original file in the Program + Features. After that I installed an updated version of Softmaker Office and am now able to run the program without a hitch. Thanks again, pal ! 8)
