Support for Google Android mobile device operating system

Post by erika »

Google Android is a Linux based mobile device operating system. I hope your Linux port will work on this without any hassles.

Currently we support desktop Linux operating systems only. We will watch this operating system in future.

As soon as Google decides that there are other languages besides Java for developing apps, we'll have a look again...

That's really good news since it removes a major technical hurdle. We need to discuss with our industry partners the business side of it as well.

Thank you for updating us on the NDK.

Yes, I really would like to see Softmaker on Android. Many Android phones, like the Droid/Milestone have physical keyboards so that you can type and navigate while using the full screen. That means people are more likely to use them for a full powered office suite than other phones. (IMHO, while the new HD2 has all the specs, it is a toy without the keyboard)

I'm also looking forward SoftMaker for Android. I've been a satisfied user of the Windows Mobile version since SoftMaker Office 2006, but due to the Microsoft abandonment of this OS (Windows Phone 7 is an entirely different thing, and developers will have to use managed code) I've moved to Android.

Currently I use DocumentsToGo for Android, but I miss the more advanced editing capabilities of SoftMaker Office; although I have to admit that DocumentsToGo opens my larger documents in a breeze.

I have just moved to Android and would love to see Softmaker become the first real office suite for Android. Google has left a gaping hole in the devices by not providing a Google Doc app. Softmaker could easily fill the void.

+1 - we would buy this is a heartbeat.

I couldnt help but notice that you are doing a beta of a Windows Mobile based offering - where there are a ton of Office alternatives. On Android, you would be the first serious offering.

+1 I would also buy this in a heartbeat.

I just recently bought "Documents To Go" because it seemed like the best thing available for Android. It is nothing even close to SoftMaker Office. I had SM Office on my old windows mobile phone and it was amazing. The Android is only going to get more popular, so it makes sense to try and support it.

Thanks for listening :)

Softmaker for android? I'm glad I checked this forum again. I will make sure that every Android user knows about this.

Imagine this not just on android phones but also tablets, netbooks and even Google TV boxes. OEM's will want to bundle so that they can provide Office support out of the box. For example, Samsung currently bundles ThinkFree office with the Galaxy S.

I have recently moved from WM to Android and I really miss Softmaker Office, I have been using it for several years.

Just thought I would add my support for getting an Android version. Android is not perfect but I find it easier to live with than WM. Hair torn out less frequently (so far).

Cheers,

John
