MailMaker

Post by erika »

Do you have any future plans for developing an e-mail and calendar client called e.g. MailMaker? That will be an important part of the full office suite. Thanks.

Currently we are working on BasicMaker 2007, DataMaker 2007 and Presentations 2007. Later we will update TextMaker and PlanMaker to 2007 version as well. Maybe we can talk about other programs after the release of Office 2007. Currently there are no resources for developing an e-mail client.

BasicMaker is a scripting language that is compatible with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). It allows you to write small scripts or programs that execute commands in TextMaker and PlanMaker. If you have repetitive tasks in SoftMaker Office that you wish to automate, BasicMaker is the right tool.

BasicMaker has previously been available only to customers in Germany. We are currently building a new version that will be offered internationally, as part of the next version of SoftMaker Office.

Thunderbird is fairly populer. Why don't you build your custom version on top of that as MailMaker? The idea is to provide a complete office package. Unless you provide a complete set, you cannot gain huge markets in the enterprise space.

ThunderBird has excellent e-mail and calendaring capabilities cross-platform. And it is supported by millions in the community. Even if you develop yours own from scratch in the future, it can hardly can any market share against Outlook or ThunderBird or Evolution. But it is up to your strategy makers. :)

Our software uses the same toolkit for every platform, which means our software shares almost the same code for all platforms. This way our software uns on platforms like Windows, Linux, Pocket PCs and Windows CE. While Thunderbird works on Windows and Linux, it doesn't work on Windows Mobile powered devices, which will make it very hard for us to port it to these platforms.
