To add to this post:
I have now done a test with another OS, namely FyseOS. I will provide the link.
I installed Free Office 2024 via the deb file ( softmaker-freeoffice-2024_1230-01_amd64.deb )
and it is working as it should for now. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that this OS ...

I had already discovered this myself.
However, it seems to work with LibreOffice (but that comes pre-installed with Linux).

Small update regarding my above post.
The read-only files are stored on Google Drive in Explorer (Linux files).
When I copy these same files to the Documents folder, they open normally.
So it may have something to do with where they are stored!
