Odd/Even page headers and footers
I know. Everyone is going to say "create a custom page format/layout for odd and even pages", but that's a royal PITA when all you want is a page number on the outside corner. Yes, I've had to do it when I had running page headers listing the chapter title in other books, but its a lot of ...

Re: Editing Services
True. But that's not the issue here. The problem is when you treat an early draft as a final draft that you as if was ready for the printers. For instance: If you have a text-box where you can fit 500 words, then your editor add 4 more, you would have to make the text box bigger. Then this will dis...

Re: Editing Services
If you have afile that takes 45 minutes to load and is just text with some images, this says a lot. You probably are using the wrong tool for the job. There is a reason why word processors for writers exists. This applications, internally, split chapters into files to avoid this kind of issues and ...

Re: Proprietary File Enhancement
The paid version of TextMaker does both. In the FreeOffice version, font embedding is possible when exporting to PDF but not in the TextMaker file itself. Both the paid version and the FreeOffice version allow section breaks. Thanks for the response, section breaks not really what I'm talking about.

Re: Textmaker 2021 on Windows 11 doesn't find user fonts
How is this a TextMaker problem? Well, speaking as a software developer with 4 decades in the field, on the home-hobby computer platforms like x86 and Windows, when a user installs fonts for just that user, all applications that user launches are supposed to look for them. The directory path is wel...

Re: Editing Services
The reference to CMOS 13.37 is to the section of the CMOS, not the edition. I'm 81 years old. I graduated from high school in 1962. The current CMOS/AP way is what I was taught in high school. It doesn't get much more archaic than that. I went to a poor school. In 4th grade we still had "scien...

Re: Editing Services
When I started writing books this was mandatory. He said "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah." "And another thing blah blah blah blah blah." Assuming this is all the same speaker, this was never correct (in American English). Each new paragraph should begin w...

Re: Editing Services
For basic editing of novels and similar books, Strunk & White's The Elements of Style would suffice as the only editorial guide needed. For reasons lost in the mists of time, I have three copies of it on my desktop reference shelf -- all 3rd edition. Perhaps, but I'm old. I'm wanting software t...

Textmaker 2021 on Windows 11 doesn't find user fonts
It's probably all versions of Windows, maybe just 11. I don't have physical access to the machine, but it appears they installed Liberation fonts as a user instead of System and she gets Microsoft's gloriously bad font substitutions. https://www.1001fonts.com/search.html?search=liberation Mono Regul...

Proprietary File Enhancement
TextMaker can make a huge leap if they expand their proprietary file format to: allow embedding of fonts create multiple document sections Read this blog post and this LibreOffice bug that has been open since January 2011. You would not believe just how many of us keep Lotus WordPro around and use i...

Re: Editing Services
LibreOffice is a train wreck that got hit by a plane crash and is rolling downhill towards a daycare center at noon play. I wouldn't have worded it quite that strongly ... but I can't disagree. In many ways, it's proof of the adage that a camel is a horse that was designed by a committee. I would. ...

Change Tracking hangs
Noticed this on Windows 10 with professional TextMaker 2021. I'm reviewing changes from an editor. If I have to pull open a browser, or look at an email because someone called, etc. causing TextMaker to not be the top level full screen window for 5-10 minutes, it's hung when I get back to it. I can ...

Re: Editing Services
4. LibreOffice compatibility with MS Office is okeyish, SoftMaker beats it on that regard. Where LO excels is when it comes to ODT, witch is a true ISO standard format. SMO's support of the ODT is mediocre at best, and it is puzzling since is the mandatory office document format in the EU. I know, ...
