Out of curiosity, open the same file and try saving in both .ods format and .xlsx format. Then post the resulting file sizes. No Woody, the contents of a cell shrinking to fit more, or less, data.
Sorry i wasn't more explicit.
On LibreOff it's a formatting option under "alignment", titled "shrink to fit".
